Reconstitution & Forming
of Parish Pastoral Councils

In the coming weeks we will be reconstituting our Parish Pastoral Councils in both Portstewart and St. Malachy’s, Coleraine and forming a new Parish Pastoral Council in Portrush. This is a significant moment in the life of our parishes as we seek to form and reconstitute the councils. We warmly invite all parishioners to consider stepping into this important role within the parish.

What is a Parish Pastoral Council? (PPC)
A PPC is a consultative group of dedicated parishioners who work alongside their priest(s) to discern and further the mission of Christ in the parish. Together, they can cultivate a vibrant Christian community grounded in faith, worship and service.

The Role of a Parish Pastoral Council. (PPC)
The PPC is a dynamic assembly where each member’s unique gifts, charisms and ministries unite in a spirit of love and communion. By nurturing and supporting the parish’s mission, the PPC promotes the Church’s call to live and share Christ’s love and values. It supports the community in responding to their baptismal call and collaborates with the priest and parishioners to build a vibrant Christian community. The PPC is attentive to parish concerns and societal realities, always seeking ways to bring meaning, empowerment and hope into the lives of our parishioners.

The role of the Parish Pastoral Council is:

  • Inspiring parishioners through example and conversation.
  • Encouraging participation in the liturgical life of the parish.
  • Praying for the well-being of our parish community.
  • Organising and promoting faith-building initiatives.
  • Offering adult religious education opportunities.
  • Welcoming newcomers to our parish family.
  • Enhancing communication and co-ordination between parish activities.
  • Supporting the parish priest(s).
  • Affirming and supporting other parish groups.
  • Developing and supporting pastoral care for youth, elderly, bereaved, those with additional needs and those who are marginalized.
  • Delegating specific tasks to competent individuals or groups within the parish.
  • Engaging non-churchgoing parishioners as valued members of our parish community.
