LAY BEREAVEMENT MINISTRY – PORTRUSH & BUSHMILLS, COLERAINE, PORTSTEWART

Could you be the compassionate presence someone needs in their time of grief?
Our Parishes are seeking volunteers to join the Lay Bereavement Ministry which is a vital and deeply meaningful service that walks alongside parishioners during one of life’s most difficult journeys. Our Parish Pastoral Councils have identified bereavement ministry and supporting the bereaved as one of our pastoral priorities.
As a Lay Bereavement Minister, and following a period of training, you would offer care and support in a variety of ways:
• Home visits to bereaved families, always accompanied by a fellow minister.
• Telephone support for those who need a listening ear.
• Group and drop-in sessions held at the Parish Centre.
• Presence at Month’s Mind Masses, offering comfort to grieving families.
• Support at the November Mass for the Dead, honouring those we have lost.
• Being a gentle, familiar face — a reminder that no one grieves alone.
This ministry asks for compassion, a willingness to listen, and a desire to serve. Full training will be provided.
If you feel called to this ministry, we would love to hear from you. Please speak with or contact Fr Kevin or Fr Paddy for more information.
